GEMS Specialty Divisions

At GEMS, our commitment to serving the community is reflected in the diverse range of emergency services we offer. Our specialty divisions – Bike Team, Marine Medic, Special Operations Unit, and Honor Guard – each play a crucial role in our mission. Whether swiftly navigating through crowded events, extending Advanced Life Support to maritime communities, efficiently coordinating emergency responses, or representing GEMS with honor at community events, our specialty divisions ensure we provide comprehensive, high-quality emergency care to every corner of Greenwich Town. Explore each division to learn more about how they contribute to our unwavering commitment to public safety.

Medical Bike Team

Medical Bike Team

To enhance our emergency services during special events in the warmer months, GEMS formed a specialized Bike Team. These trained providers quickly navigate crowded events in Greenwich Town, swiftly reaching patients and initiating immediate medical care. Their mobility ensures rapid response, even in areas challenging for an ambulance to access, bridging the gap until the arrival of a transporting ambulance. The Bike Team showcases our continued dedication to public safety and immediate, high-quality medical care at special events.

Marine Medic Division

Marine Medic Division

During summer weekends and holidays, GEMS partners with the Greenwich Police Department Marine Division. We assign a paramedic to a Police Marine Patrol boat, extending Advanced Life Support to boaters and offshore areas. In 2009, our shared commitment to marine safety led to the joint purchase of a new water rescue crane, enhancing our service to the marine community.

Special Operations Unit

Special Operations Unit

A retired ambulance has been repurposed into our Special Operations Unit (SOU), bringing versatile emergency response to large-scale events and mass casualty incidents. Equipped with extensive medical supplies, an integrated communication system, and an emergency power generator, it’s operated by expertly trained staff. The SOU also provides crucial aid and rehabilitation to firefighters during strenuous incidents, further amplifying our comprehensive emergency services.

Honor Guard

Honor Guard

Our 14-member GEMS Honor Guard takes great pride in representing our community at cherished town events such as Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, and St. Patrick’s Day parades. Additionally, they honorably represent Public Safety Professionals during memorial services for members and their families as requested, emphasizing our deep community connection and respect.
