GEMS ambulance team consists of a Paramedic and a Emergency Medical Technician (EMT):
Paramedics are licensed by the state under Federal guidelines after completing an intensive 1600-hour course in Advanced Life Support medical care and a three month internship.
EMT's complete an intensive 110-hour course for state certification and most complete additional training in Advanced Life Support
Together, under the control of the emergency room physician, the team can begin life saving emergency medical care
To Reach GEMS - Dial 911
You'll reach a police dispatcher. The minute your call is received, your name, address and phone number appear on the screen.
This centrally-computerized system ensures that even if you are unable to speak -for whatever the reason-your call will still be answered and help is immediately on the way.
GEMS Needs Your Support Each year more lives are being saved because we work with the most sophisticated equipment available. In 1995, GEMS became the first service in the Northeast to add 12-Lead EKG capabilities. This technology provides early information to the emergency department, saving up to thirty critical minutes in initiating treatment of life-threatening heart conditions.
Through a cooperative effort between Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich Police Department and Greenwich EMS, a new program has been launched to equip all police cars with Automatic External Defibrillators.
These devices, used only by trained police officers, may reverse life-threatening heart rhythms which occur during cardiac arrest.
This treatment, coupled with GEMS Advanced Life Support care, may double the cardiac arrest save rate.
In order to maintain this level of care, we need your support. Your tax deductible donation towards our capital fund will make it possible for GEMS to purchase the latest in advanced life support equipment and to maintain our fleet of emergency response vehicles.
