GEMS’ strict hiring guidelines include these requirements:
- Initial State of Connecticut Certification
- Minimum one year emergency medical experience
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) accreditation
- Successful completion of GEMS Region/State Treatment Guideline Examination
- Recommendation of Medical Director after “mega code” examinationSkill performance documentation
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
GEMS continuing employment requires:
- Successful completion of State of Connecticut refresher training and testing requirements
- Daily evaluation of individual call-run reports by GEMS Training Officer and the medical director provided by Greenwich Hospital.
- Monthly CME and call review attendance
- Maintenance of ACLS, PALS and AHA CPR certification
- On-going skill performance documentation
DRUG TESTINGGEMS requires pre-employment drug testing and was the first EMS service in Connecticut to establish on-going random drug testing.
